Don’t miss the University of Huddersfield’s Researchers’ Night, ‘Living in a Material World’, on Friday 23 September  – where everyone can be a scientist for the night.

One Handed Games (Winner of Best Game Award)

Team Miss Maryland (Award for Best Art and 2nd place in Best Game Award)

Team Origami (Award for Most Innovative Game and 3rd place in Best Game Award)

3 Days, 32 Hours, 8 Teams and 37 students…. all ended in 8 fantastic games.

The theme this year was “Ducks in space” and was judged by our alumni who are now working in the games industry for some very well known companies. Thank you to all the alumni who attended, some from quite far away!

As you might imagine, we took some photos and some videos, see below.

Trailers for each of the games will be up soon, and maybe even some playable demos!

But the most important information first, the winners!

Award for Most Innovative Game

This was awarded by Chris Hardwick. Chris worked in Canalside studios at the university on his placement year, then headed to Codemasters and now works for another huge games studio. And the award went to… Team Origami for their game “Duck wars”. The team includes Ben Blakemore, Joshua Hackett, Carl Mason, Sean Pollitt and guest musician Samm Hart.

Award for Best Art

This was awarded by Christie Hanson…. I can’t tell who she works for, but it’s a very popular games company! The award for best art went to Miss Maryland for their game “Super Duck Attack”. The team includes Jonathan Elliot, Carl Holmes, Nick Walton, Michael Wellon and James Witcomb.

Best Game Award 1st Place

The overall winners of the competition were One Handed Games and their game “Where the duck are my eggs”. This was awarded by Dr Rupert Ward, Head of Department at the University of Huddersfield. The team includes Lewis Bibby, Andrew Neil, Samuel Read and Daniel Sefton. Congratulations guys!

Best Game Award – 2nd and 3rd places

Best Game Award 2nd and 3rd places were awarded to 2 teams who’d already done well, Miss Maryland (2nd) and Origami (3rd). The 2nd prize was awarded by Ben Hinchliffe and Jay Walton, now both working for Rockstar Leeds. Ben and Jay both worked for Canalside Studios in their placement year.

The 3rd prize was awarded by Daniel McGuire, MD of Carnival Creative. Dan also worked in Canalside Studios on his placement year.
